POS Hardware Software Install Overview

Identify Location and Placement of all Hardware.

  • Perform a walk through with the manager/onsite contact and ask that they identify the location/placement of all hardware.
  • Confirm location and number of terminals. Place Post it notes with Terminal Name/Number on each Terminal location with site contact.

Server / Back Office Printer / Switch / Modem Overview

  • Install server and plug in all cables properly.
  • Plugged directly into an outlet and all POS hardware plugged into the Power Conditioner
  • Use dedicated circuit whenever available.
  • DO NOT plug into extension cords, power strips, or surge protectors.
  • DO NOT plug non-NCR hardware into a battery backup or power conditioning.
  • Connect the file server to network switchInstall Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse or KVM Switch
  • Connect USB Backup Drive to POS Server

Terminal / Printer Connections / Power

  • Connect Ethernet cable to network switch through patch panel
  • Connect Local Printer via COM port or USB
  • Connect Remote printer via COM port or Ethernet
  • Connect Credit Card Pinpad via USB
  • Connect Scanner via USB
  • Connect Scale via Serial or USB
  • Plug Power Conditioner directly into an outlet and all POS hardware plugged into the Power Conditioner

Loading Paper / Paper Types / Paper Spec

  • Thermal Printer 3 1/8
  • Impact Printer 3” bonded paper, can use multiple ply paper
